HAITI
With a population of over 8 million, 50% of all children in Haiti will die before the age of 15. Children are dying from starvation, worms, parasites, and curable diseases. The infant mortality rate is extremely high at over 60%.
Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, with 80% of the population living under the poverty line.
Lifeline was started in 1983 when Arnold Lemke visited Haiti for the first time and saw firsthand the destitution of human life that surrounded him. A small feeding program was started for 12 children where they were fed under a big tree. Today over 1000 children are fed five times a week.
Many of these same children attend the Christian school up to 5th grade. A staff of 20 teachers provides education in three different locations.
Along with food and education, underprivileged children are provided with clothing, medical attention and spiritual guidance.
With your gift, we can help lower the percentage of dying children, giving thousands of Haitian children a chance for a better future through nutritional meals, education and medical care.
